Ready, Steady, Cook
Welling's "Ready, Steady, Cook programme launched in September 2024 and has been a roaring success for our KS3 students.
The sessions run every Tuesday between 3pm and 4pm where all KS3 students are welcome. There is a fabulous atmosphere amongst our little chefs and we are proud to see their culinary skills and confidence develop within the kitchen enviornment. Some of the key skills that the students focus on are :
- Knife Skills
- Preparing of foods
- Flavours / textures of different types
- Technical skills/ equipment
- Timings of cooking
This is a really good opportunity to form new relationships in a very respectful kind manner. Students always engage after washing up and take part in a feedback session whist awaiting the cooking process.
Alongside the practical elements of the club, we also watch videos relating to our products and discuss the recipes that we are creating.
This extra curriculum club stimulates our student’s knowledge of foods and boosts their confidence and creativity.
Since September, our wonderful chefs have created some delivious delights including :
- Fruit Kebabs
- Pizza (students made their own dough base)
- Double Chocolate Muffins
- Oat Biscuits
- Pasta Bakes
- Chicken Wings & Wedges
- Sugar Cookies
- Egg Fried Rice
- Cinnamon Shortbread
- Chicken Chow mein
- Chocolate Marble Cup Cakes…
- Ginger Biscuits
As we look to the future, there are plenty more exciting creations to follow.
