Royal Court Young Playwright's Award

Welling School has been selected as one of a small number of schools nation-wide to take part in the Royal Court Theatre’s first ever Young Playwright’s Award. The Royal Court are looking for exciting new voices, and want to help young people develop their writing skills and try out something new. Winners will be professionally performed at the Royal Court Theatre in London in July, and published as a professional play by Nick Hern Books.

To kick off the competition, we had a professional playwright, the brilliant Tife Kusoro, coming into Welling on Friday 24th January to run a one-hour workshop with 20 of our students. Students must be between 13 and 18 years of age. Miss Langdon will then be running a number of check-ins with pupils ahead of their submission of their plays later in the spring. In each of these check-in sessions we will have a video-drop from a different playwright giving further advice on how to continue writing.
