PE

Choose a subject:

Studying and following a varied and inspirational PE diet can help enhance knowledge and strengthen and develop wider learning. PE is not only a valuable school subject but also an essential healthy lifestyle choice.

The PE department has an experienced and highly knowledgeable group of teachers who are passionate about their subject and offering opportunities to all students.  Lessons are challenging, and we push the students to be the best they can in a wide variety of activities.  Our aim is for students to enjoy sport and continue to take part in physical activity for the rest of their lives. Communication and teamwork is at the heart of all the skills we teach and this is developed as students progress through the years.  PE increases levels of independence, confidence and good health.

For those taking GCSE PE, lessons will cover theory topics such as anatomy and physiology, sports psychology, and socio-cultural influences on sport.

KS5 Curriculum

We aim to support students in achieving the results that are needed to progress into higher education. We also want students to practice skills that have real world application that could assist them in the sports industry.

For those taking OCR Sport and Physical Activity Level 3, lessons will cover theory topics such as Anatomy and Physiology, Sports Coaching and Activity Leadership, Sports Organisation and Development, Sporting Injuries and Rehabilitation.

Extracurricular Opportunities:

Students have the opportunity to participate in a range of after school clubs such as, football, cricket, basketball, netball, trampolining and netball. Students will also have the opportunity to represent Welling School in a range of competitive fixtures and competitions. Our PE curriculum encourages every student to find activities they enjoy while equipping them with the knowledge and skills to maintain a healthy and active lifestyle.

PE Department School Trips

Each term, the PE department recognises outstanding effort, attitude, and performance by naming two students from each key stage as ‘Player of the Term’. As a reward, these students are invited on an exciting school trip. Previous trips have included activities such as Ninja Warrior, laser tag, and TOCA Social, providing a fun and active experience to celebrate their achievements. These trips serve as both a reward and motivation for students to continue demonstrating excellence in PE and school sport.
