Applied Subjects
This Applied Science course allows students to gain a Level 3 qualification equivalent in size to an A Level. This comprises 4 units, two pieces of coursework, one externally set assessment and one examination. Activities for the coursework elements take the form of research based assignments, oral presentations, practical investigations and class visits to a scientific lab.
BUSINESS STUDIES
Exam board: OCR Cambridge Technical Extended Certificate
This qualification will provide learners with the opportunity through applied learning to develop the core specialist knowledge, skills and understanding required in the business sector. Learners must achieve a total of 5 units consisting of 3 mandatory units and 2 optional units. 2 units are externally assessed by exams while the rest are internally assessed.
This qualification allows you to gain a Level 3 qualification to support further study in Further Education (FE) or Higher Education (HE) in business-related programmes and in any other sector or subject area
CHILD DEVELOPMENT
Exam board: Pearson BTEC National Extended Certificate
You will develop a detailed understanding of the development of children with practical experience in supporting children in different settings. You will learn the fundamental principles for supporting a child. Childcare allows you to be creative, use initiative and analyse the impact of procedures, legislation and protocols that are followed within settings.
This is a useful course for those interested in progressing to higher education or working in early year’s practitioners working with young children such as nursing or becoming a teacher.
WJEC LEVEL 3 DIPLOMA IN CRIMINOLOGY
WJEC Level 3 Diploma in Criminology is a qualification with elements of Psychology, Law and Sociology that complements studies in humanities related subjects. The qualification would support learners’ progression from any study at Level 2, particularly GCSEs in Sociology, Law or Psychology. The course will go beyond the traditional academic study with guest speakers from agencies involved in services/practice that the Criminology course material covers.
HEALTH AND SOCIAL CARE
Exam board: OCR Cambridge Technical Extended Certificate/ Diploma
This qualification will enable learners to progress to a degree programme chosen from a range of programmes in the health and social care sector.
The course is delivered through a range of methods and is often led by students following research in particular areas, however students will need to develop their independent learning skills.
You could progress directly into health, social care, early years work or move into higher education. This is for those interested in health care, early years or practitioners such as nursing or becoming a teacher.
INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
Exam board: OCR Cambridge Technical Introductory Diploma
OCR Level 3 Cambridge Technical in IT offers specialist pathways in IT Infrastructure Technician, Emerging Digital Technology Practitioner, Application Developer and Data Analyst. Students will gain an understanding of how to apply their practical skills and knowledge in preparation for further study or at the workplace. It focuses on those skills, knowledge and understanding that today’s universities and employers demand.
Achievement of this qualification would support your progression to go on and study relevant IT degrees in a Higher Education institution or go on to pursue careers in the IT sector.
MUSIC PERFORMANCE

Music Performance is the perfect qualification for you to gain knowledge of the music industry in preparation for further study or employment.You should already have experience of performing, including at school and in other venues. This course will take you to the next level where you will not only learn more about audience awareness and communication but will become an expert at all aspects of backroom preparation for gigs and concerts.

MUSIC TECHNOLOGY

In this exciting and fast moving industry you will develop a detailed background knowledge with practical experience in different aspects of music production. You will learn techniques associated with the recording, composition and manipulation of sound and music. Music Technology combines creativity and current advances in computer music and digital recording to provide a comprehensive education for students with an interest in both.
This course gives the opportunity to study Music Technology at higher education, or work within the music industry, creative industries and technology sector. This includes careers within broadcasting, studios and live sound.
SPORT AND PHYSICAL ACTIVITY

Sport and Physical Activity has been developed to meet the changing needs of the sector, and prepare students for the challenges they’ll face in university or employment. The Cambridge Technicals in Sport and Physical Activity focus on the knowledge, understanding and skills that today’s universities and employers demand. Students will practically apply their knowledge and skills in preparation for further study or the workplace.
Progress to Higher Education in sport related courses including sport science and sport coaching or access employment in the sport and leisure industry including coaching, fitness instruction and leisure management.
